The Cherokee area is diverse in things to do and see. We are bordered by the mile high peaks of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the Blue Ridge Parkway. These areas are easily accessible for hiking, picnicking, sightseeing, fishing, or just relaxing and dangling your feet in one of the numerous mountain streams. Trout fishing on the Cherokee Reservation begins early in the season and offers 30 miles of stocked streams. Oconaluftee Island Park is a treasure for enjoying the best of nature... right in the center of Cherokee. Pack a lunch and come explore!

Historically and culturally, Cherokee is one of a kind. Our outdoor drama, Unto These Hills, plays nightly in the summer months, telling the story of the Cherokees who lived here before the arrival of the Europeans and the Cherokee removal known as "The Trail of Tears." The Oconaluftee Indian Village is a recreated village of one that existed about 250 years ago where young Cherokee guides escort you through the village educating you about the past and present of the tribe. The Museum of the Cherokee Indian awaits you with a new learning experience about the Cherokees. A fine museum gift shop with outstanding local crafts is not to be missed.

For the young and young-at-heart, Santa's Land offers a fun day filled with rides, a zoo, clever animation, and Santa himself. The Cherokee Fun Park promises fun days and nights with go-karts, miniature golf, bumper boats, and a game room. There's even gold to be panned at the Smoky Mountain Gold & Ruby Mine. You can even have your finds made into beautiful jewelry.
